Beginners

So your new to Little League and wonder, where do I start? How does it work? Will my child get hit in the head with a ball? All these questions and more we will try to answer here for you. And yes, your son will get hit with the ball, we just hope it wont be in the head.

Little League is divided into separate divisions. Tee Ball, Coach Pitch, Rookie, Minors, and Majors.

Tee Ball

Tee Ball is your beginner players usually around age 5 and 6. After one year of Tee Ball, regardless of age, they are eligible to play Coach Pitch. Tee Ball rules are much different than regular rules, and are designed to help the players identify and understand the absolute basic fundamentals of baseball. Hitting, catching, fielding and throwing. Tee Ball rules usually follow the following guidelines, however are subject to change from league to league.

We use a Level One Tee Ball. This ball is an extremely soft, squishy baseball to keep the newcomers from getting hurt.
All players bat every inning. Regardless of outs.
5 swings per child, or until the ball is "hit"
Unlimited number of outs during innings the first half of the season, and child doesn't have to leave the field when out. Second half of the season, child must leave field if they get out.
Once all players have batted, the inning is over, and the next team bats.
Scores are not usually kept.
Kids will have opportunity to play all positions on the field.
Games usually last an hour and half, or 5 innings.

Once your child is registered, your child's coach will contact you to setup practices. Please be patient, creating teams can take a while.

Coach Pitch

Coach Pitch is the next level of play for kids usually ages 6-7 years old. Kids now play with regulation out and inning rules.
Even though its called Coach Pitch, we use a Louisville Slugger Blue Flame Pitching Machine. Description of it can be found here. We pitch the balls approx. 25mph, one of the lowest settings on the machine. We use a machine to ensure accuracy in every pitch, and equal the play amongst the players. We use a standard hard ball in this level of play. There is a 5 run rule that is enforced, so when a team earns 5 runs, the inning is over, and the next team bats. Game Play is 6 innings, or an hour and a half, whichever comes first. Scores are kept, and a tournament is usually played at the end of the season.

Rookies

This will be a brand new division for Skyline Little League. This will encompass the 8 year olds. 7 Year olds will be used to fill vacant spots in the rookie division, but only those who attend try outs on January 30th and Feb. 6th at skyline high school between 9 - 12 pm. Registration will be the same as coach pitch. More info to come.

Registration

Registration should be quick and easy. You can do it online, or in person. Please click on the Calendar items to view when those in person times are available. Online registration will be available soon. Exact cost hasn't been determined yet, but will be around $70.

Equipment

The league will provide baseballs for practicing, helmets, bats, catchers gear and bases/Tee. Your child is free to purchase whatever equipment they would like to have themselves. Your child is required by the league to wear a cup at all times. It is up to your coach on what your child will wear as a uniform. The league will provide hats, and jerseys.

Practice Times

Practice times are completely up to the coaches discretion. Usually, they work with the team to find common times that work for everyone.

Opening Day

Opening Day is a great day of fun and excitement. Its a time where the team gets to parade and introduce themselves. Usually this takes place at Skyline High School, and starts with parade at the football field with introductions to each team. After a brief ceremony, activities and usually a game or 2 is played that day for a select group of teams. There will be inflatable's, and food as well for the kids.

Grey Pants

Skyline Little League will only be playing with Grey Pants. This will minimize confusion and allow parents to purchase their childs uniform early.
